| Grenadian prime minister Keith Mitchell has spoken out about the recent release of three of the men convicted of killing former prime minister Maurice Bishop and some of his Cabinet colleagues. |
Ten other prisoners are likely to be released within three years - they have already served several years in prison for the crime.
The governing NNP and relatives of those killed in the 1983 coup have heavily criticised the recent court decision on the Grenada 13. |
 |
| Prime Minister Mitchell underscored that disappointment in his latest address to the nation. |
| "At this time there is the need to earn the forgiveness of the Grenadian people by open demonstration and proof that they take their rehabilitation seriously and are prepared to respect the decency, the tolerance, the grace under pressure, justice, a sense of fair play and compassion one to another, of the Grenadian people," Dr. Mitchell said. |
| He also suggested that "earning the forgiveness of the Grenadian people must begin with a genuine sense of remorse which to date is long in coming. The first conduct in their rehabilitative journey must be the absence of arrogance and gloating in the face of the powerful example of compassion demonstrated by our people." |
| One of the three released, Lester Redhead, has already told BBC Caribbean that he is making a serious attempt at reconciliation. |
