| Bush Meets Haitian President |

| President Bush has praised efforts made by the government of Haiti to improve security. |
Speaking after talks with Haiti's President Rene Preval in Washington, Mr Bush said that the security situation was much improved since the new government came to office last year.
"The economy is improving, inflation is down, exports are up . . . I praise your efforts on establishing rule of law and |

| routing out corruption," the US president said. |
| He also praised Mr. Preval's management of the economy but he said there was still, as he put it, a lot of work to be done. |
| Mr. Preval thanked President Bush for the aid received from Washington and added that Haiti was now awaiting investment from American businesses. |
| He said: "Peace has been restored, and the conditions for investment are here. Haiti is awaiting American investors.". |
| The United States is Haiti's largest trading partner and largest donor of humanitarian assistance. |
| A United Nations peace-keeping force has been deployed since 2004 to maintain. |
| Earlier, in a speech to the US Chamber of Commerce, the Haitian president said a commission will be formed to focus on a battle against corruption, contraband and drug smuggling. |
| "The fight against corruption, the fight against contraband to set equal conditions for competition in the private sector, we will launch it next week," he said. |
